KAST 2018 High Seas Expedition is over
On Monday morning, High Seas Expedition began by an onshore registration and initial games. 51 curious sailors set off for an exciting, week-long voyage in high seas.
Captain Phil set the clear direction straight away and other crew members: Michelle, Mikaela, Emillie, Rekeba, Isabelle and Sammy introduced the theme song of the sail – Vast Voyage. Then sailors split into crews, got to know their captains and each other, took on daily responsibilities and lifted the anchor...
Every day a volunteering sailor, accompanied by other shipmates’ chanting Hoist the Sail! raised the main sail with a new character – Bible Buddy – that introduced the daily Bible point. We learnt that God’s Word is.... (who remembers?) – Let’s go! We could observe useful values and truths also in different people’s stories from past and presence. Daily themes were underlined in an amusing way by funny skits about clumsy Sailor Jack. Every day we also learnt a new English song and did the fat-and-will-burning :) warm-up exercise Sally (ouch – can you still feel your thighs?)
Crews left the first ports of Sing and Play Splash + Bible Voyage and set off for three other ports (Ship Rec Games, Sail Away Cinema and Clipper Ship Crafts) with different tasks to fulfill. To conclude the morning part of voyage we all met back at the Floating Finale and then – off we went for lunch. With full bellies (if you ate what they had given you :)) we plunged into English conversation, language games and more or less sports activities.
On Thursday we went on transatlantic cruise to Atlantis Center in Levice where we enjoyed playing with interesting interactive toys and pretended to escape the sinking Titanic in a lifeboat. Truly, we will not forget waiting for the delayed train and the train ride itself :) (Concentration – 67...:)
Before we realised, the last day came, fulfilled with sharing contacts, words of thanks, hugs and tears. Canadian team touched our hearts and we did theirs :) – they only heard of Slovakia before and now – as they said – they will never forget us and see if they can come back next year...let’s hope it will work out :)
...meanwhile – keep singing camp songs, revise English High Seas Expedition words, make beaver tails, chat, follow on Instagram and keep in touch :)
